On Monday, the U.S. Department of State released a bombshell document entitled Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism. A key example of the Trump administration’s new war on behalf of Western civilization against its radical, left-wing enemies, Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism incisively examines Havana’s role in fomenting anti-Western, anti-American, and anti-white rhetoric and violence within the United States. In 100 pages, the document makes the case that Cuba, far more than the long-gone Soviet Union and mercenary-minded China, has been successful in infiltrating the American homeland and challenging the peace and prosperity of the American republic from within by providing financial support and training for a bevy of black nationalists, Puerto Rican separatists, and various left-wing organizations, from Antifa to the Democratic Socialists of America.
The first chapter, entitled “The Revolutionary State,” makes the case that Cuba surpassed the influence and reach of the USSR even before the Iron Curtain fell and Moscow lost its hammer and sickle. “The common depiction of Cuba as a former client state of the Soviet Union is at best incomplete,” reads the document. While Moscow did underwrite Castro’s government for decades, providing the struggling Cuban economy with patronage, military experts, etc., Cuba ultimately charted an ideological path that was separate from the orthodox Marxism of Moscow. Whereas the Soviet Union believed in the “dictatorship of the proletariat” and the inevitability of economies and nations controlled by cooperatives of urban workers, Cuba, on the other hand, became obsessed with liberating “the Global South from its Western colonial oppressors.” Cuban communism, like Chinese Maoism, dispensed with appeals to the proletariat and instead invoked anti-colonialism and Third Worldism as weapons in the fight against white supremacy and American hegemony.
Laid out in succeeding chapters, from “Birth of a New Left” to “Racial Revolution,” Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism makes it abundantly clear that Havana’s vision has succeeded where all other Marxist-inspired contemporaries have failed. This is because Cuba appeals to the dispossessed: racial minorities within the United States, especially African-Americans, radicalized college students, extreme feminists, and anarcho-communist activists like antifa. Like Cuba, all of these groups are dedicated to weakening or destroying the American state in the name of “liberation” from “imperial oppression.”
Some of the major highlights of the document include:
- Creating and hosting the Tricontinental Conference in 1966 to coordinate between far-left organizations in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa and to establish Third Worldist ideology as the guiding principle against American foreign policy.
- Providing left-wing insurgents in Latin America with money, weapons, and military support throughout the Cold War. Also, in Africa, hundreds of thousands of Cuban soldiers fought on behalf of Afro-Marxists in Angola and Ethiopia.
- The Dirección de Inteligencia (DI) carried off several HUMINT (human intelligence) coups within the U.S. government, even placing agents high up within several organizations, from the CIA to U.S. Southern Command.
- Providing shelter and training to America’s many left-wing radicals, from Black Liberation Army insurgents on the run from murder charges to thousands of Venceremos Brigade true believers, including two mayors of Los Angeles.
- Capturing the allegiance of far-left millionaires like Neville Roy Singham, who have funded far-left agitation in the U.S. to the tune of nearly one billion dollars.
Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism is nothing less than a rallying cry for the United States to get serious about the actions and activities of the radical left. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently gave a rousing speech in front of the representatives of 66 nations about the growing threat of left-wing terrorism. This speech, along with the Trump administration’s continued crackdown on Antifa and anti-American governments in Caracas and Tehran, signals that there is a new War on Terrorism unfolding, and it looks a lot like America’s First War on Terrorism. Beginning in the late 19th century and concluding around 1921, Washington, D.C. took on the rise of anarcho-communist terrorism in the U.S. and Europe by aggressively prosecuting and deporting radical aliens who threatened the peace and harmony of the U.S. Despite popular belief, this First War on Terrorism was incredibly successful. It was only undone by the return of socialistic feeling caused by the Great Depression.
As I argue in my essay recently published by Rubicon, defeating Cuba-aligned communism within the United States may require actions that will be called “authoritarian” by both mainstream Democrats and libertarians within the Republican Party. Many are already bemoaning the Trump administration for creating a “New McCarthyism” that threatens First Amendment rights. These critiques must be cast aside, for the threat of Third Worldism is very, very real, and since October 7, 2023, it has been the dominant, most visible part of the left-wing of the Democratic Party. The rise of the DSA in New York City and beyond should frighten conservatives. The DSA and its supporters should not be mocked; they should be defeated, and for many, deported. The strength of the DSA and the New Left in the United States comes directly from Castroite ideology: everything white and Western is evil and oppressive and should be destroyed by any means possible. This belief takes many insidious forms, even seemingly innocuous arguments against the fact that the United States was founded and guided by a fairly homogenous Anglo-Protestant ethnos until the 20th century. Normal Republicans may be scared to admit it. Still, this message appeals to millions of American voters, many of whom learned to hate while in college, which the State Department’s document says is the primary point for Cuban infiltration in the U.S.
The time for an aggressive offensive against Havana is now. Not only should the communist regime in Havana fall, but President Trump, in tandem with the Justice Department, ICE, the Department of War, and local law enforcement, must commit all the necessary resources to thwarting and punishing all those individuals and movements whose sole ideological aim is the destruction of the United States.
