DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran said it will announce a new restricted zone in the Gulf in the coming days, along with maps of a new shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, as a weekend exchange of strikes on shipping sent oil prices higher on Monday. The new restricted zone will begin from where the U.S. blockade of Iran begins and extend into areas of the Gulf, Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on Sunday in an interview with state TV. Few details were provided, but Rezaei said any ship entering the new zone would be added to a sanctions list.

Former USCIS Official Charged in Alleged $960K Citizenship Bribery Scheme

A former senior U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services official and his accomplice are facing charges for an alleged bribery scheme in which they accepted nearly $960,000 in exchange for favors in the processing of immigration benefit applications, including citizenship cases. The former official, Lukman Owolabi Ganiyu, and his financial accomplice, Adeniyi Akeem Somoye, were arrested on federal charges for their roles in an alleged multi-year scheme to receive illegal gratuities in exchange for manipulating and expediting immigration applications, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas. The pair were charged with conspiracy to receive illegal gratuities by a public official.

Trump Sues Soros-Funded Center for American Progress Over National Guard Crime Claim

President Donald Trump announced a lawsuit against the left-wing think tank Center for American Progress after the organization reported that National Guard deployments to several cities had no impact on crime. In a Truth Social post, Trump said a lawsuit was "being drawn now" and that he was "strongly considering adding some of the contributors to this Fake Organization," naming George Soros among CAP's funders. A CAP analysis by Chandler Hall, associate director of public safety, argued violent crime was already falling before Guard deployments and found "no evidence that National Guard deployments have reduced violent crime," warning extended deployments through end of 2026 could cost taxpayers more than $1.7 billion.

The Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) published an opinion Tuesday telling states that if they receive federal food stamp and Social Security assistance, they are required to report the presence of known illegal immigrants to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

States participating in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs are required to report the presence of illegals to DHS, the opinion states. But it is not just the state or local agencies administering those programs that are required to report to DHS, but rather all agencies in the state, per a 1996 welfare reform law. “When a state chooses to participate in TANF, it accepts the obligation to report illegal aliens in the United States,” Assistant Attorney General T. Elliot Gaiser of OLC stated in a Wednesday press release.
