This week, Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn, chairman of the Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement and a noted advocate of Austrian NATO membership, announced he would be running for president of Austria. What is the significance of this and should white Americans take notice?
Who Is Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn and What Does He Believe?
Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn is an Austrian economist, podcaster, and author of the Pax Europeana book series. He is a hardcore Atlanticist and pan-Europeanist. He wants not only Austria in NATO, but Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo as well. He supports a strengthened NATO and European Union to fortify the West against what he calls the “Russo-Islamo-Sinitic axis” as well as the rise of Duginist and multipolar thought in Russia and the Third World.
On foreign policy, Fehlinger-Jahn is largely sound, except for his support of Bosnia over Serbia. Bosnia functions in many ways like a Middle Eastern Islamic country inside Europe; Serbia fought to keep Europe from becoming an Islamic caliphate. On immigration, he is not a restrictionist. He supports legal non-European migration into Europe. He opposes Islamism and hijabs in schools, but he does not treat Islam as a foreign and hostile civilization. He has said: “Islam is about peace, the same as all religions! In Europe, all religions are welcome!”
He fights for the geopolitical interests of Europe and the West, but he treats Western civilization as a set of ideas and values anyone can adopt. It is not. It is a civilization created by West Eurasians (specifically Europeans) through centuries of Greco-Roman, Germanic, and Celtic synthesis, with additional influence from the Phoenicians and classical Judea. It is the civilization of the European peoples: made by and for Europeans and white Westerners. The interests of “Europe and the West” are not only the interests of Western states, but the interests of the European nations that constitute the West. If non-European nations are imported until they become the majority, there will be no European civilization left and no Western interest left to defend.
How Should Identitarians View Fehlinger-Jahn’s Presidential Run?
Identitarians should neither fully endorse nor fully condemn his campaign. His geopolitical program, the so-called Fehlinger Doctrine, is strongly pro-Western and Atlanticist, which is good, aside from his anti-Serbian line and support for Bosnia. His views on immigration and human biological diversity are weaker.
People can change. Over a decade ago, Marco Rubio supported amnesty and a “comprehensive” immigration system. He now supports remigration of illegal aliens and has described America as a “child of Europe,” correctly implying that America is a European nation. Fehlinger-Jahn may move in a more identitarian direction on immigration and HBD. As of now, given his support for legal non-European migration, his criticism of ethnic-nationalist movements such as the AfD, and his preference for Bosnian Muslims over Serbs, Atlanticist identitarians should not jump on the Fehlinger-Jahn wagon.
He is not the enemy, either. The enemy remains the center-left and far-left parties that opened Europe’s borders and still push mass non-European immigration. It is in America’s interest to save Europe. If Europe ceases to be European, it is more likely to align with Russia, Iran, China, and the Third World, and Europe could host Islamic caliphates with nuclear weapons. The parties that save Europe should also be pro-American, not pro-Russian, as too many European nationalists unfortunately are. If Fehlinger-Jahn, a committed Atlanticist, also became an identitarian, that would serve both White America and European civilization.
