Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Breitbart News at a “State of the Economy” event that the Trump administration has sanctioned an Iranian airline and plans to sanction another bank this week. Bessent said Iran is “panicked” over the pressure campaign and that President Trump keeps pushing the administration “to do more and more,” including calls to countries that still had financial lifelines into the regime

He rejected claims that sanctions do not work, citing recent closures of a Dubai branch of a major Egyptian bank and a Turkish bank that had channeled funds to Tehran. “We sanctioned an Iranian airline today. We are going to cut them off,” Bessent said, adding that alongside sanctions there is a blockade with “nothing in” and “nothing out.” Using a snake analogy, he said the Iranian leadership “don’t know they’re dead yet, but they are.”
